Have survived another year of teaching freshmen. All but a few passed (some of them in spite of themselves). Realized this winter that I had lost my passport, so am in process of re-applying for a new one (plus I think the old one would have expired this month anyway); if I pay the extra to expedite the application, I might even get it back in time to take that "Five Years of Freshmen" sanity renewal trip to England that Martha & I talked about this winter.

And a Christmas present for my own family:

Dad graduated from most of his PT/home health checks this week. He has to go for once a week sessions for his ankle for a bit longer, but that's it (and come January, the surgeon says he can resume doing whatever he wants as far as his ribs are concerned). It seems both a moment and a lifetime ago that our prayer was that he'd make it through the next hour without trying to pull his breathing tube out.

Just discovered this and died laughing.

(Wow! Has it really been five years since LBD first aired?)

Followed three students out of school yesterday: a pair of sisters, and the younger sister's friend. As they walked toward their respective vehicles, younger sister called out to her friend, "Hey! Maybe I can go home with you!"

Whereupon the older sister cheerfully yelled, "Yes, please take her! Please!!"

Dad may be able to come home this week.
